Video://Thunderheist | Schubas Tavern | Chicago, IL [01.17.09]

Welcome to Above the Fold’s newly re-designed site. I hope you all enjoy it as much as we do. (We are hoping any viewing errors from our previous site will now be gone).

We made the trip from Minneapolis to Chicago this weekend and caught up with our favorite new hip-hop party group, Toronto’s Thunderheist. Isis and Graham-zilla threw it down at Schubas Tavern on Saturday night as part of a brief stint in the U.S. We are anxiously waiting for the group’s debut full-length album that is due out in March. Check out the group’s performance of their popular song Jerk It below:

The Cool Kids – That’s Stupid (Mixtape)

The Cool Kids, who are starting to prove that they’re “cold as an ice cream cone in an Iceland snowstorm,” have continued to gain ground steadily  this year, with a relatively small amount of new tracks. These two new-school-retro pioneers have gained hipster fame through only a handful of internet leaked tracks and an EP that offered only two new songs. So it would be an understatement to say that we’ve all been waiting for a healthy dose of new music from the Cool Kids for some-time… Thank (insert deity here) that mixtapes have come back in style, and now you can all add The Cool Kids’ That’s Stupid to your list of hot mixes for the summer. While they’ve managed to be fashionably-late on their releases so far, let’s hope the full length hits quick and hard.
