MPLS Preview: Soundset ’11

by Justin Andert on April 28, 2011

This year’s edition of Rhymesayers’ Soundset Music Festival is only about a month away and we here at ATF are dripping with excitement. In its Fourth Installment, the festival proves to be bigger than ever (18,000 people showed last year) with a line-up for all ages. Headliners Big Boi, Slaughterhouse, and De La Soul promise to entertain those with love for the classics while artists like Curren$y, Mac Miller, Mally, and the Doomtree crew will be shouting out for the younger generation.

Of course Atmosphere, coming off the release of their new album The Family Sign will close off the night, which never disappoints.

The line-up is absolutely stacked so get yourself over to the Official page for all the info and to buy your tickets!

Call it coincidence, but the Beastie Boys ‘made some noise’ this week with the release of the lead single from their 8th studio album Hot Sauce Committee Part 2. The single is classic Beasties leaving excitement for a 16 track LP with features the likes of Nas and Santigold. Hit SoundVerite for a drop of the new single and listen below to Passion Pit’s remix of Make Some Noise.

Saturday night marks the first time the Twin Cities will see Australia’s Cut Copy since the release of their new album Zonoscope. ATF has a history with the dance-pop band, considering this writer got the chance to bowl a game with the trio at Detroit’s Magic Stick. [See Poorly Produced Video Interview] The show is unfortunately sold out if you haven’t gotten your tickets yet. We’ll see folks there! Here’s some chunes from the new album and a remix of Holy Ghost!, the most excited for an Opening act I’ve been all year.

New: Julio Bashmore – Batty Knee Dance

by Justin Andert on April 5, 2011

Julio Bashmore is maybe my favorite house producer out right now. His 2011 releases have been on point and he continues the trend with his new EP Batty Knee Dance. Listen to the title track:

MPLS: No Bird Sing are ‘Back from Heaven’

by Justin Andert on April 5, 2011

Some of the best news to hit the Twin Cities so far in 2011 is Theft of the Common Good the new LP from No Bird Sing. (Like the warmer weather wasn’t good enough!) The trio plans to release the album on April 29  in coordination with a release show at The Cedar with Kill the Vultures and Kristoff Krane. The band effectively moves away from cheese shop status with its samples and lame catchphrases replaced by live band sound and lyrical depth.  Snatch tickets HERE and Pre-Order the Album HERE

New Music: Austra – Lose It

by Justin Andert on April 2, 2011

Usually after I listen to a track this much I tend to Lose It, but when it’s Austra, the newly minted SXSW-buzz band it’s not an issue. Their new album is out May 17, which can’t come soon enough. Get addicted below:
