Minneapolis’ newest music project, Air Conditioning School, has released its first single Wake Me Up on So-TM Records (Total Babe, UltraChorus).
Air Conditioning School is a solo endeavor from long-time Minneapolis musician Chris Heidman who is currently one of half of ATF favorite UltraChorus. Heidman has been writing the songs for ACS for almost eight years since his former band Sukpatch disbanded. The first single features the title track and a B-Side titled Busymore. Also featured on the tracks are Clara Salyer of Total Babe fame on Bass and Jeff Lorentzen of UltraChorus fame on drums.
Heidman made a great animated video that adds a great visual element to Wake Me Up. Check it out:

MPLS has a new music blog called REVILER that has spawned from former contributors of the recently defunct super blog Culture Bully. So if you didn’t think you could live without the insightful reviews from Josh Keller or the out-of-this-world photography of Jon Behm then please head over to Reviler.Org and get your fill of MPLS’ best local music.
Monday night: Officials report that Obama will use the State of the Union address to announce a funding freeze on domestic issues, such as education and the environment. Conversely, military spending is expected to increase.
Tuesday morning: news sources flood the mediascape with headlines like “Al-Qaeda seeks WMD, US unprepared for threat”: the Washington Post, MSNBC, CBS News, the Boston Globe, and countless others.
“It is no longer possible…to believe in the original dogma of democracy; that the knowledge needed for the management of human affairs comes up spontaneously from the human heart. Where we act on that theory we expose ourselves to self-deception, and to forms of persuasion that we cannot verify.” –Walter Lippman, Public Opinion
MPLS.TV, the creative new television series that spotlights the Minneapolis culture through humorous and unique storylines based on people and places in the city, is having a Winter Jubliee performance at the Bedlam Theater on Thursday featuring great Minneapolis musicians like Zoo Animal, Guante & Big Cats!, Paragraphs, and more. The cost of the show is $10 and goes directly to Season 2 of the fantastic show. This will be a great night so be sure to check it out! Show starts at 6 p.m.
One of the best parts of MPLS.TV is their local music features. My favorite so far features Jeremy Messersmith singing his song Light Rail in the MPLS skyway:
Rhymesayers announced yesterday that they will also be doing their part to raise funds for Haiti relief. They will be presenting a Benefit show at First Avenue on Tuesday, February 9. The show will be rocked by Brother Ali, Freeway & Jake One, Muja Messiah, Sage Francis, Toki Wright, and many more. Get your tickets through Rhymesayers tomorrow at 11 a.m. This might be the best show of the year so far in MPLS. Make sure to help the people of Haiti.
City Pages and Gimme Noise have worked hard to put together a show in support of Haiti with a rather mind-blowing local line-up. We will see the likes of Mark Mallman, Solid Gold, Zoo Animal, Peter Wolf Crier hit the stage with Jimmy2Times and co-sponsor BRLSQ’s Mike the 2600 King spinning DJ sets between acts. Please go HERE to purchase tickets for $12. 100% of proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross for Haiti Relief & Development Fund & Architecture for Humanity. If you get a chance thank Andrea Swensson and Jen Boyles for their hard work to make this happen!
Sungha will be performing at Mississippi Studios this Thursday in North Portland, with “acoustic ninja” Trace Bundy also on the bill. $12 tickets, 8pm.
Steel For Scenery is bringing their aggressive, yet tonal, prog rock to Portland’s Twilight Cafe. Their sound is similar to Mars Volta, which they pull it off quite nicely. They also won a Portland Battle of the Bands last March as their first show together. The concert tonight starts at 8pm. $4 cover.
