TV: ‘New Directions’ Makes it Through Sectionals [GLEE]
The day finally arrived for McKinley High School’s Glee Club New Directions to take the stage at their first Sectionals competition. As we’ve grown accustomed from the first twelve episodes, it was not an easy path for the choir to make it on stage. Already minus their Director (thanks to last episode’s Sue Sylvester sabotage) the club was dealt another blow with the loss of their Male star Finn who finally found out he wasn’t the father of Quinn’s baby.
Mr. Shuester chose Emma to travel with the kids to the competition, which was no easy task as the kids had to witness the other choirs stealing their set list numbers (another Sue Sylvester sabotage). In the meantime, Shuester’s wisdom convinces Finn he Can’t Always Get What He Wants. In typical GLEE fashion, Finn shows up to rescue the choir with a new song in hand. After Mercedes’ ballad is stolen by the other group, she gives Rachel her chance to perform the song she was born to sing. (Which was fitting knowing her obsession with Barbara Streisand). Watch her showstopping rendition of Don’t Rain on My Parade (which ironically, was the closing song for the show choir both Josh and I were apart of in High School) as well as their performance of The Rolling Stones’ You Can’t Always Get What You Want:
From this point on, the episode took us into the dreaded four-month hiatus by giving us the moments we’ve all been waiting for: The group WINS Sectionals(!). And while we can’t always get what WE want Sue Sylvester finally gets what SHE deserves(!) The choir fittingly sings Kelly Clarkson’s My Life Would Suck With You for Mr. Shuester (which if you didn’t notice, the choreography all represented previous performances from the season)……..and finally………the moment we ALL wanted to see:
Wait, not that one…………THIS one:
We will be waiting for April 2010 with bated breath! Until then take a listen to the audio version of Don’t Rain on My Parade:

Even more exciting for next season, the rumor is Idina Menzel, who played Elphaba in Wicked, is cast to play Rachel’s biological mother and/or the coach for Vocal Adrenaline in the Spring season.
