PDX Protests WTO
Maybe I’m just a pessimistic jerk, but Portland’s contribution to worldwide protests against the World Trade Organization was pretty weak. Roughly 1,200 people showed; however, the march was short and the subsequent rally/indoors concert failed to accommodate much more than have its activists. I can’t get the irony out of my head of an angry crowd chanting, “Whose streets? Our streets! Whose streets? Our Streets!,” while being herded along by police. In addition, the goal of the day’s events was completely unclear. All we did was walk by the World Trade Center on our way to a concert. Who were we even protesting to? I mean, I may as well have posted a fucking facebook status about how the WTO sucks balls (Santos thinks the WTO sucks balls). World saved. *Sigh* Alright, I got that out of my system. Maybe that’s all these people were trying to do, too.
