Chester French brought their unique pop/hop/rock sound to St. Paul last night whilst opening for the Blink 182 Reunion Tour. It is kind of sad to see a group of this caliber opening for children (musical integrity and maturity-wise), but it goes to show their flexible sound fits in with artists of varying genres and demographics. The group put on an energy filled set that set a great tone for the rest of the show.

We’ve got more in store for you in terms of coverage of Friday’s Sneaker Pimps show with Clipse, Parallax, and Muja Messiah, but here’s a quick taste to get you through the day.
The modern legends that you and I know, and love, would hardly be legends at all without this man. . .
Lebron James. Before he was King James he was The Chosen One. When Lebron James was a Senior in High School in Akron, OH in 2003 he was dubbed the next Michael Jordan. I remember getting together with friends to watch the first time his high school game was televised on ESPN2 and thinking he was unreal. The story that didn’t get told back then was his childhood struggles and battle to overcome odds with his high school teammates.
More than a Game is a documentary that tells the coming-of-age story of Lebron and his four best friends from OH on their quest to win the High School National Championship in 2003 through tribulations and adversity. The film is set for release through Lionsgate on October 2. Check out the trailer below:

In the spirit of Sneaker Pimps on Friday also check out this video of Lebron’s recent photo shoot for his new Nike Air Max Sneakers where he can be seen rapping to Clipse’s Kinda Like a Big Deal and Big Sean’s Glenwood both featuring Kanye West.
Though Sneaker Pimps is the world’s largest touring sneaker show, the festival strives to make each stop unique to the city in which it is held. To highlight the local flavor of the Minneapolis show, we got together with one of Friday’s performers Parallax to shoot a few photos at some choice graff art spots (by local artist SHAPER). While our very own Justin Andert had the photos on lock, Parallax frontman Chance York was kind enough to answer a few questions I threw his way.

Last week, we talked about the hip hop lifestyle event Sneaker Pimps at First Avenue this Friday that has us super amped. With hip-hop mainstays Clipse set to kill it, live art installations during the event, and rare sneakers for days, it is going to go off big.
With all those aspects to indulge, one of the best parts of this traveling art show is their addition of local flavor to all their events. Today we’re going to spotlight one of Friday’s Minneapolis performers, Muja Messiah.

We caught up with Muja getting in the spirit of Sneaker Pimps at Friedman’s Dept. Store, a longtime staple with a dope shoe selection in North Minneapolis. We asked the URB Next 100 artist some questions about his sneaker preference and his upcoming performance at First Avenue. Find out his sneaker influences and more after the jump:
Sneaker Pimps, the world’s largest traveling sneaker hip-hop exhibition is making its first stop in Minneapolis next Friday August 14 at First Avenue. The tour features over 1500 pairs of rare, limited edition, vintage, celebrity signed, artists collaborated sneakers and a collection of sneaker inspired artwork, fashion and photography. The tour also features live street art installations, live skateboarding demonstrations, street basketball competitions and live hip-hop.
Clipse, the hottest duo in hip hop is doing the honors of headlining the music portion of the 360 degrees of hip hop and sneaker culture that Sneaker Pimps has brought to over 60 cities across the globe.
Minneapolis musicians Parallax and Muja Messiah will help give the night some local flavor, as well.
This is going to be one of the best things that Minneapolis has seen come through in a long time so you will not want to miss out.
