Natalie Portman’s Shaved Head is a group of young, spirited musicians from Seattle, WA who make thick electro dance rock music. The group has obtained quite a bit of success on its own steam as it released its debut album in July on their own makeshift record label.
With the opening bill on the CSS tour last summer and an upcoming tour with Lily Allen in the same spot; NPSH is only picking up steam. We had a chance to catch the band sitting for a second and took the opportunity to ask some questions. Be sure to check out our newest video below:
Power Shift’s next event will take place from February 27th to March 2nd in Washington D.C. The group plans to throng a throng of 10,000 people before the White House, demanding “comprehensive and immediate federal climate action.” The purpose of Power Shift is to connect like-minded peers and lobby national legislators into supporting climate change policy. The specifics will be based on local needs, such as cessation of all mountaintop removal coal mining for the Appalachian states, a moratorium on the coal plants proposed in Michigan, etc. In addition, Green Owl Records will present a lineup of The Roots, (newly doned) Santigold, So So Glos, and London Sould. Visit www.powershift09.org for more information on how to get involved and educated.
Dre Day is an amazing evening of good music, lots of 40′s, and probably some good dro. I can try to explain it, but the video will do a better job. The headliner, Minneapolis-based Muja Messiah throws it down after a night full of Dre tunes. Thanks to Sound Verite’ and Burlesque of North America.
This video and song features Kid Cudi who was recently tazed in Phoenix after an altercation with some Reebok folks. Might be the most ridiculous story ever, but hey, remember that time he DIDN’T get tazed while he talked with Above the Fold? [Youtube]
Wow this place has been a ghost town lately. Apologies for the lack of updates, but a mixture of WordPress issues and the real world not cooperating has slowed us down a bit. We promise to be back better then ever! But, here’s a video I couldn’t watch and not talk about. The video is for Oren Lavie’s song Her Morning Elegance. It features some great stop motion animation. Check it out:
Then you were wrong. This mash-up by Paris resident ComaR of Radiohead’s ‘No Surprises’ and M.I.A’s ‘Paper Planes’ is actually very dope. I thought it would be a long time before I could listen to the overplayed track again, but mixed with the best band on the planet; it was bound to find a surprisingly fitting result.
Bonnaroo may have just overtaken Coachella for Festival of the Year today when it announced its line-up. Other than the fact that The Boss, fresh off his Super Bowl halftime show, will headline, there are many other ATF favorites playing like Beastie Boys, Al Green, Grizzly Bear (!), MGMT, David Byrne (!), Band of Horses, Santogold, The Decemberists, and Girl Talk to name just a very few. Manchester, TN here we come!
