Cassettes Won’t Listen Battles Kanye West/Miley Cirus//Falls Short//Gives Out Free Single
For a guy that writes chill pop music, Cassettes Won’t Listen, has gone out of his way to stir up the pot a bit with some mainstream musicians. Everyone knows that Kanye West tends to get his way (give the crying kid his candy), so when Jason Drake (Cassettes) announced that he would give away his next album for free if he beat out Kanye West to be nominated for Best Male Video at this year’s VMAs it was bound to cause some ill feelings. Drake took it another step by setting up BeatKanye.com to entice voters to knock off the self-proclaimed ‘World’s Greatest’
Only a few days later Drake’s video for his song Paper Float had been taken off the voting list on MTV’s web-site. This led the New York-based musician to make this comment on his blog, “Not sure if Kanye got word of BeatKanye.com but very shortly after I announced my plans to beat him for this years Best Male Video nomination for the MTV VMAs my video was taken out of the running. Hmmmmmmmm…….”
Since then, the votes have been tallied and Kanye didn’t even make it on the list of nominees for Best Male Video, which leads me to the question:
Not willing to accept defeat with the Kanye battle, or because he truly wants to give away his album for free, Drake decided to make another run for MTV’s best pop video and created a site called BeatMiley.com to stir up some Miley Cyrus drama. Unfortunately, the plan did not work in the musicians’ favor, but this whole MTV mess has given us some good free music because Cassettes decided to release a free download of his new single that is available for hardcopy purchase on 9/9. The track is a step ahead of his previous work. Hopefully that is a sign of things to come with his unreleased album.
