Review: The Black Ghosts – The Black Ghosts
Who the hell does Simon Lord think he is? I’m still waiting for him to do something musically that doesn’t make me hate his talent. Now he has a collaboration with Theo Keating called The Black Ghosts who have been making waves already by way of mixtapes/EPs, but the electro/punk group have finally thrown a full-length album our way. Although, you don’t so much catch this album with your hands as much as it attaches itself to your ears.
Simon Lord’s (best known as vocalist from Simian (Mobile Disco) pipes give this album the spark that ignites its energy and fierceness.
Face has potential to be Justice’s next claim to fame with its wildly captivating sound. I Want Nothing is a standout track that has the addicting elements of Simian’s We Are Your Friends with a Eurythmics style hook. This track is a 3 on the Simian Scale due to its dancibility (made up words are fun). Don’t Cry’s R&B style makes it a good listen.
Some Way Through This can only be described as a plastic tube full of raw intensity that gets let out little by little in the form of an electric new age symphony.
The Black Ghosts bring it on their debut album and if history tells us any tales it is that this group is likely going to be haunting our headphones for a long time to come.
